There was a discussion on the drool a couple of years ago about jingling tags possibly contributing to deafness in dogs. I don't know if tags do or do not cause deafness but decided at the time to try the Quiet Spot tag silencers. I still don't know whether or not tags cause deafness, but I LOVE Quiet Spot tag silencers.

Pw. Tasselhoff and Fizban wear 5 tags each (dog license, address tag, rabies tag, therapy dog tag and St. Francis medal), that many tags make quite a bit of noise, which I found annoying. I found myself taking their collars off at night and trying to reduce the number of tags they wore. Neither of these were very good options.

The silencers do a great job stopping the noise but I've found other benefits as well. The bag stops the tags from wearing down, especially the soft metal of the St. Francis medals. I use to replace their medals about every 6 months but I haven't had to replace them since they started wearing the silencers. Replacing St. Francis medals isn't that big of a deal, but not having to worry about their other tags wearing down and falling off provides a lot of peace of mind. They also stop the tag from leaving a dirty mark on their white neck fur by rubbing against it. I use to put clear nail polish on their tags to cut down on the dirt but it work off quickly so I had to do that often. I also found that dog tags attract snow! In the winter Tas and Fiz would have great big snowballs under their necks where there tags where. The silencers put a stop to that as well.

The one negative I found is that I was concerned that someone wouldn't look in the bag for their address tag. To solve that I leave that tag out. The bag still stops that tag from jingling around or rubbing against the hound. As an added bonus, IF dog tags can cause deafness, Tas and Fiz are protected from that as well. So if you don't like dog tags for one reason or another you might want to try these.

I attached a picture of Pw. Tasselhoff and Fizban in which you can see Fiz's Quiet Spot bag quite clearly. Tas has his on also but it is behind his ear.
