[Dailydrool] Gagging Bassets and warm weather

Maggie the island dog does this hacking/gagging thing a lot - sounds like
she is hacking up a hairball or something. Maggie gets a little warm
starting about this time of year and cannot go in the car if I will be
leaving her more than 5-10 min. When it gets too hot we walk in the evenings
when it is cooler. She has already starting to pant more. She loves to go
lay out in the sun. Just a word of warning. Maggie got into a bottle of
Vitamin B-complex and we figure she ate about 50 of them. She was slightly
anemic on her last blood work so the vet said to give her a pill a day. She
really likes them - so much so she managed to get into my medication drawer
and take the bottle out, chew off the cap and eat all but two of them. We
found the chewed up cap but had to work at finding the bottle. The vet had
me give her hydrogen peroxide to make her purge them and she was none the
worse for wear. I didn't close the drawer all the way by accident. She never
seems to eat non-food stuff but likes all things food and all things cat
poop. I give her a pill a day with her food. I was very lucky - that drawer
also contains all my prescription medications and OTC pain stuff and such.
She had pulled a few things out and left them on the floor without eating
them. She wanted more food after emptying her stomach and I got to try out
my new carpet cleaner. The vet just called and she is no longer anemic but
wants to check her thyroid in about 5-6 months - she is putting on weight
again after having lost the extra weight. She is regaining her fluffiness.
The joys of doggie parenthood. The pills are now going into a storage box to
be put up in a cupboard so only I can reach them.
