[Dailydrool] Slow vet care

This really brings back some memories. About a year ago, a cat came up with her kittens and now lives with us. She made the mistake of taking her kittens into the fenced yard where the dogs are. The mother and female escaped, but my Husky/Wolf mix (who has a high prey drive) got the male kitten. I made him drop it on command (thank goodness for obedience training). We had just moved here to NW TN from the Memphis area, and had used one vet here a time or two. I called him at 6:30 in the morning and told him I was on my way with an injured kitten who was having trouble breathing. His reply was "Well, I guess I can meet you at the office in 45 minutes". I called him about 5 minutes later to let him know the kitten had died enroute and his reply was "Oh, OK". No "I'm so sorry your kitten died" or acknowledgement of my loss or anything. Needless to say, I never went there again and I have told all my friends with pets about it. He very obviously just didn't care. He should find another line of work. My current vet (who is 35 miles away) is wonderful. She is caring, compassionate and knows how to prioritize her clients. She took time to make friends with my Husky/Wolf before doing his annual and it made all the difference in the world to him. (No flaming, please - I did not buy him. He was a stray we rescued.) She is worth the extra travelling to get to her. If there is an emergency, there is another group of vets 15 miles away I can call.
