 In addition to Sandi's reasons to use crates, another reason to crate
train your basset is that he or she will probably have to stay at the
vet's office in a crate sometime during his/her lifetime. If he/she is
already used to a crate it will be less stressful than if he/she has
never been in one before.

 I have nine crates in the house, two in the mini van, seven or eight in
the motor home, and a couple more extra packed away. There's usually at
least one basset in a crate with the door open. They sometimes choose
the crate over the sofa or dog beds. Oh and they always get a cookie
when we do shut the crate door.
