I, too, agee that martingale collars are wonderful! We use them for walks, only, and Frank and Sarah can't slip them. We also bought one for Cody, the doxie-from-next-door, since he occasionally shows up as we're leaving for a walk and we can't go without him, for goodness sake! Cody was the master of slipping out of his regular buckle collar. No matter how tight it was, he had this little zig-zag head-move, and you'd be holding a leash, a collar, and no dog.

We don't leave them on all the time because we're afraid they'd get hung on a bush or something, and wouldn't be able to get free. We have an invisible fence, and the collars with the receivers on them are regular buckle collars. Sarah has "lost" hers twice, by sticking her head in a shrub and then backing up and leaving the collar in the bush. We finally put reflective tape on each of their fence collars so we can find the collars in the dark (since it's always been dark when we realize they're missing!)
