I hope that so far the Holidays have been excellent for everyone.Sadly, they are turning South for a friend of mine. She is loving slave to beautiful Ginger, a vivacious 9 year old beautiful basset girl. She is in excellent health (despite a few small bladder stones), but right before Christmas, Patti noticed a lump that was growing rapidly. She got Ginger to her regular Vet right away, but this Vet recommended Patti see a specialist rather than remove the lump in her office. I consulted my Vet about it, and he concurred. Well, Patti just got home from the specialist a little while ago, and it is not good news. Patti gave me permission to reprint part of her email. Please don't read this as a solicitation for money as it is not. We are just looking for advice and options. I am going to contact my Vet again for his advice (he has been super helpful about this), and I am even wondering if Oriental treatments are a possible option. Any advice and drool will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks so much,Jackie and the Chazey bassetsThe news was not as good as expected. They think the mass is two tumors. They want over six thousand dollars to remove the internal one (3600 for the operation and 2500 for the hosptial stay) and said that it is a 50 50 chance that it is cancerous. If it is, she will only have one to four months even if it is removed. They will also do a biopsy of the outside mass at the same time. She wants another 6 thousand or more because she said it will involve a rib removal possible and reconstruction. All total 12 plus thousand dollars. I was ready to go about 4 thousand but 6 to 12 is out of my range. Ginger was a trooper through the whole visit even getting right in and out of the car. My heart is broken of course. The vet said she looks strong and would take the operation well. I wonder if there are any other kind of options . I wont give up yet, And neither will Ginger. Sorry for the sad report.
