With the recent discussion about nails and using a Dremel, someone (can't
remember who) said that their basset's nails were too tough for a Dremel. I
suspect that the problem may be that you are trying to use the sandpaper
drum. Basset nails are WAYYYY too hard for the sandpaper drum. If you use
the grinding stone wheel you will find that those nails just "buzz" off. It
is quicker and also generates less heat on the nail because it is quicker.
It takes less than 30 seconds of using the grinding stone for each nail.
With puppies, I sometimes use the slower speed on the Dremel the first time
or two, put usually the higher speed on the Dremel works best. Also, a good
demonstration on how to use the Dremel may be helpful. Maybe there is a
Drooler in your area who is experienced or a groomer.
