[Dailydrool] When it Rains it Pours

Oh my. I just got done with the police after two pit bulls entered our yard and attacked Lizzie. It was AWFUL. I was upstairs when I heard the very unmelodious sounds of dogs fighting. I ran downstairs to find a man in the back yard trying to pull two dogs off of Lizzie. I did what I could, but neither of us were having much success. Finally one of the neighbors came out and I asked her to call the police.

Lizzie is VERY protective of us and her yard and has only become more so since my husband announced a month ago that he wanted to "separate," which has slowly evolved in to wanting a divorce. So, it's just been me and the cats and dogs. And a whole lot of questions about how this could have happened to me when I thought we were so happy.

The man was very apologetic and said he didn't want "them to shoot my dogs." I feel bad that it ended with the dogs being hauled off to quarantine, but we have kids and LOTS of dogs in this neighborhood. What if my neighbor's 4 year old grandson had been in our yard?

We have an invisible fence, with which Lizzie does VERY well. Of course, now I see why Droolers say that it is bad because you can't keep other dogs out!

Anyway, besides needing the therapeutic value of writing to a group who would understand, I also need some suggestions for something to keep here to protect me and Lizzie if this were to ever happen again. I just couldn't believe that she would not give up. She doesn't go looking for trouble. In fact, she gets along well with all sorts of dogs. But, like lots of women, when she's in hot water, LOOK OUT! I can also look in the archives, but what is it that saved Brudder Elwood? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Lizzie seems to only have a couple of minor bites. . .mostly on her ears. Of course, that's where she has the most real estate! But, we'll be in at the vet first thing tomorrow to make sure everything is okay.

I've never seen anything like what happened today.

Alison
