I totally agree with Momperson that other dogs should not be in the room when a dog is euthanized (or allowed near a body if a natural death and it can be avoided.)  They have a difficult enough time dealing
with the human, who is having emotional reactions that they cannot comprehend. As
far as knowing the other dog is deceased and still looking all over for him/her--dogs live in the moment.
I don't know they remember. And even if the smell is there, they can't connect--how could they comprehend death. 
 Besides, whenever I have lost a dog, I have expected that dog to greet me, be around a corner,
come into the room, etc. for a very long time afterwards,  How could a dog not do the same thing?
