[Dailydrool] Gentian Violet

Physicians use gentian violet on people too. Mostly on babies to treat
thrush, a yeast infection in the mouth that is really common in babies. You
just paint it on with a Q tip and warn the parents that the baby will drool
purple for a day.
We have used this on Koa as well, painting his ear canals when he had a
particularly bad yeast infection. He hates it, but hates filling his ears
with liquid worse, so this was a better option than Blue Power.
One caution: Gentian violet is extremely caustic in the 1% solution form.
So, you can apply it topically, but only in a single dose. More than that
and it can erode skin and cause ulcers and bleeding. It is extremely diluted
in the Blue Power solution, by the way, so use that to your heart's content.
