Hi, Nancy,
I was just in that same situation.  A few months ago, I adopted a rescue Bichon Frise who already had a Home Again Microchip.  The rescue forwarded me his microchip number, and I called Home Again to change his info. over to me.  Their number is 1-800-466-3242.  They changed the info. right over the phone, but also sent me a form to fill out.  Try calling back!  The person I spoke with was pretty knowledgeable.  Maybe he was out sick the day you called!
