Heart healing drool to Indys' people on their loss of Indys.  We hope he had a safe and gentle journey to the bridge.  

King Bob, if there is a holistic vet near you your swabes might want to try accupuncture for Benny.  Both Rimadyl and Deramaxx are hard on livers and with Benny being so young I would try to delay starting him on them until its absolutely necessary.  My sweet Lisa who had to be put down last summer had terrible arthritis and the accupuncture really helped....we were even able to wean her off the Deramaxx and just use glucosamine and the accupuncture.

Healing drool to Maggie on her sore.  Your mom is supposed to keep it open for two weeks?  What is she supposed to do, pick the scab off?  If it's still draining the hot compresses will probably help keep it open, but if it wants to heal it seems like it should heal, but I'm not a vet.  Good luck with it.
