We have a similar pair of hounds - Frank the Tank is Mr Sociability and ready for any adventure.  Sweet Sarah, on the other hand, is afraid of her own shadow, especially if we're away from home and she's out of her element.  So, if we go to a doggy function, we leave Sarah at home and take Frank with us.  We figure we're actually doing Sarah a favor by not making her endure being scared and nervous and shaky and panting.  I know she just waits for us to come back, but she's in "her house" and she's safe and sound.
