Today young Charlie is practicing being a big boy by going to doggie
day care to stay the night without our Elsinore. This is his practice
run for later this month when we must be out of town and can't take
the dogs. Elsinore will stay at Jennifer's house with Owen, Chloe,
and Lola, but Charlie is no longer welcome in Jennifer's house.
Charlie, whom she now calls Lucifer, chewed his way out of her good
graces the last time he was there while we were out of town. He
inflicted several hundred dollars worth of damage to her shoes,
bushes, and a brand-new wicker armchair from Pier 1. I don't blame
her at all for not wanting to risk a repeat of such bad buppy
behavior and mass destruction.

Charlie's so bonded with Elsinore that I worry about how he'll do
being boarded without her and thought it best to give him a dress
rehearsal on it. That way, if it's too much for him, then it'll be
only one bad night for him and not almost a week. If he can make it
through this overnight without getting anxious or otherwise coming
unglued, then he can stay there by himself and Elsinore can stay with
Jennifer. My fingers are crossed that he can do this, that we'll only
have to pay for boarding one dog, not two. The presence of a basset
buppy when I dropped Charlie off this morning bodes well. Charlie
loves other bassets and he really loves buppies (but not in a Da
Moose kind of way).

The owner of the doggie day care has asked me if I know of anyone
who'd like a bonded pair of bassets. They are a male and a female,
about 2.5 years old, housebroken, all shots. Their human found them
in a shelter but is no longer able to keep them. I don't know why she
can't, whether it's illness, moving, going into a nursing home, or
what. If anyone would like more information about these bassets, you
can contact Joanne Burke at A Bark Above in Nashville, TN,
615-258-1600, ABarkAbove1 at yahoo.com, www.ABarkAbove.net.
