[Dailydrool] Probiotics

The main reasons for probiotics, in this case, was to generate revenue
for the practice and make the owner feel like SOMETHING was being done
to cure the dog. If the dog gets well the vet gets the money AND the
credit. My father when he was alive often gave his (human) patients a
B12 injection. With the same diagnosis he would send his family home to
bed with some aspirin. People want a doctor or a vet to DO something.
Even if you don't have a very useful something you have to give them
what they want.

I know you are very protective of vets because of your history. Even
many excellent vets push for all they can get out of pet owners. Greed
and skill are not mutually exclusive.

My vet, even if he is going to refer me out to a specialist, wants to do
all the tests and x-rays. Money into the practice. If the specialist
wants to do them all over again (to fill his deposit slip) that's MY
problem. Vets are businessmen. When you bring a dog into a vet's office
the person there who cares the most about that dog's health is YOU!
