I taught mine to use the patio door dog door by using it myself.  I went back and forth through that dog door several times.  I showed them how to do it first.  Then, I waited until they went to the door with the "I GOTTA GO!" fidgeting.  I got down and went through the dog door and turned around and waited for them to come out.  It took a bit of time, but they love the door now.  :o)

  I was also at Lowe's this weekend and bought the dog door that fits in your patio door.  It's been an interesting experience so far...Winnie seems to be afraid of the flap.  I've tried bribing her through with cookies, promises of belly rubs, and all sorts of other things.  She will only go through the door if I hold the flap open for her.  

  It's only been a couple of days but she stands in front of the door and looks at me.  I thought this door would let me continue to sit on my butt and watch tv while also teaching the pup to be more self-sufficient.  

  Anyone have any training advice?
