That is a excellent idea. I got Houdini the feral cat - tamed her down for company when Becky leaves. What happens - she runs away first day in Calgary. She has Lynxx pet tag, tatoo KA1415 is a brown tabby with four white paws and white chest and absolutely no sign of her anywwhere.
So that doesn't always work either.
