[Dailydrool] need info on crooked leg

Just a few days after we got Lillie Pearl last month we noticed a slight limp. The limp got a little worse and then a little worse, but she played and ran like the wind and it never seemed to give her the least bit of pain. Then she seemed to favor it some. Off to the vetman. X-rays done. He said pano and a small shadow on the elbow. Wanted to check the shadow after the first of the year for any changes.

We came home and she got worse. Noticeably worse. We changed foods to lower protein and fat content, we started her on 1000 mg of Vitamin C, and gave her a buffered aspirin for pain. Still no better after a week, and possibly even a little worse.

Back to vetman. More X-rays. We looked and looked at these together. Her leg is just soooo crooked. No breaks. Just a deformity. He wants to try her on a splint and a calcium/phospherous supplement. He said the splint is like corrective shoes for children. Doesn't know if it will work or not, but the next stop is the orthopedist, so I thought we'd at least try this.

Got home with the splint on and she has not stopped. There is obviously no pain anymore, and she is running and rolling and playing again. She's using the splinted leg as a weapon against Lowretta. Lowretta, by the way, managed to take it off at one point and chewed just a small portion of it. It's still usable.

Oh, by the way, the pano looked good this time on x-ray, like it was disappearing and almost gone.

My question is, I guess, I know many bassets have crooked legs. My Stanley does, and even Lowretta. Theirs do not bother them and they don't limp. Does anyone have any information they can give me on Lillie Pearl's condition and what the next best step will be for her?

I cannot stand to know she's in any pain. Right now she's certainly not. But it's hard to keep the splint on at her new break-neck speed pace.
