Our Suzy is on the BOW list this week. Please, I'm not campaigning for votes. I just think it's nice to know a little about the Daily Drool dogs that we're able to see pictures of.

Our Suzy Q came to us a little over a year ago when she was about five months old from a young woman who had been crating her over 20 hours a day. Suzy had no personality and no desire to keep herself or her personal space clean. She didn't care anything about people and was only happy to have the other dogs so she could play. We found out that Suzy would bark incessantly when left alone and that's why her old family also brought a bark collar for her that she is absolutely terrified of. I'm sure it had been used inappropriately. I wish all of you could have seen that flea infested, dirty little girl then so you could really appreciate the beautiful, loving hound she is today. It has been a very long year in a lot of ways....having to have her leg surgically broken due to a growth plate solidifying too early, finding out she has very little sphincter control and needs medication to help her control her bladder, getting her to understand that keeping herself and her personal space clean is a good thing, understanding that us kissing and holding her is ok, finally having her understand that we're always going to come back in a short amount of time so she doesn't have to bark and bark. I could go on and on about the horrible consequences of crating a dog too much but I won't. I'll just tell you that all the work and tears have been worth it to see her grow into the loving, playful, beautiful young hound that she has become. Our experience with our Suzy just shows that these hounds are amazingly resilient, incredibly smart, forgiving creatures that we are so blessed to have in our lives. Suzy shows such incredible joy in life now that it's hard to believe that she is the same depressed, dirty puppy that came into our lives a year ago.

So that's Suzy's story. I hope you other slaves who submitted pictures of your beautiful hounds to the BOW this week will share your story with us too. I really enjoy being able to match the hound with the slave.
