[Dailydrool] Take in ONE homeless hound a year - and be part of the solution.

Hi there, folks,

I'm writing to ask you to be part of the solution for homeless hounds.

If you have a rescued Basset - as many, many list members do - then we know
that you have successfully gone through the adoption/adjustment phase, and
that you have what it takes to step up and help another homeless hound for a
period of time.

Fostering is the *single most important thing* that anyone can do to support
Basset Rescue. As nice as cash is - because it helps pay off the vet bills -
it's not nearly as important as a roof over a Basset's head when they are in
need.

I assure you, you WILL be able to give the Basset you foster up - it's a
fantastic feeling to send a deserving hound off with an equally deserving
new family...and then to get the happy updates when they fit in nicely.

The hard truth is that without foster homes, some hounds will end up without
a place to go - and some of them will end up being put down, for no good
reason at all.

There really isn't "someone else who can handle it better than I can" taking
care of the problem of homeless Bassets. All foster homes have a little tug
in their hearts at letting go of their fosters - but we do it because if we
don't, the consequences are borne by these sweet hounds.

Please do your part! If everyone on the Daily Drool who is currently *not*
fostering would commit to taking in only ONE DOG PER YEAR - for a foster
period that usually is less than a month or two - it would relieve a HUGE
burden on rescue groups everywhere - and in my own self-interest, on the
group that I'm trying to manage with way too few volunteers.

Please, someone step in to help. We need you. A single Basset needs you for
just a little while. Drop me a line and we'll get you started.
