[Dailydrool] Breed Intolerence

I have heard about this problem from other dog owners.  I don't have this specific problem but I do have a similar problem with my Bassets accepting another dog into the household.
The times that I've fostered have been unsuccessful because although in public or at other peoples houses my girls are so friendly to other dogs, when they come into their territory it's another story.  One of my girls dominates the couch and my bed and will get down right mean if a foster even comes close to either piece of furniture.  They get snappy and nasty towards any dogs that come into their house.  For instance, I puppy sat my friends English Bulldog Puppy and I had to keep everyone in seperate areas because they were snapping and growling at the puppy everytime she came near them.
One of my fosters, who ended up being adopted by my mom, had to leave because blood was being drawn it was getting so bad!  Anyway, I read Cesar's books, watched his videos and practice his methods, and generally everything is fine, until we make the transition from outside to inside our house.  The minute we go inside they just go pure instinct on me and whammy we have a problem!
I feel bad as I would like to be able to add a foster to our family but I'm afraid that my Bassets just won't allow any more Bassets into our home!
I took a two week vacation when I got Polly and spent every second of that two weeks correcting the jealous behaviors and eventually they accepted her but she was a puppy, I don't get the same results when I'm working with a foster who I can't really predict or blame if they do become defensive.  Any ideas?

Ok.. please picture Homer Simpson hopping from foot too foot eagerly going
OMG OMG OMG...

I know some of you may say this isn't really houndie related, but really if
you're having problems uploading pictures for others to see, or are just
not
sure how to do quick fixes, or find too many programs complicated to do what
we really think should be simple

Then I say, get ready to get your hound pictures posted and check out this 5
minute video to see how simple it really is ...

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=rskC6c_5L1M

Its Picasa 3 (beta) http://picasa.google.com/

Many folks on this list have asked about posting pictures, sending pictures
via email, etc of their houndies..

Watch the 5 minute video and see if you aren't excited about trying to get
your hounds up and on-line!! ... you could not ask for any faster, easier,
less geeky way to work with your houndie photos and more all for FREE !!!

Picasa will help organize your photos, quick touch-ups (and now their "red
eye" reduction has been highly automated) and will help you upload to a
web
album that you can share with everyone!!

Here's a link (yeah I know I've sent this before too)
http://picasaweb.google.com/TreborG2

to my public gallery at Picasa / Google and you can see, all of the albums
and photos of hounds there were uploaded so easily its mind numbing.

So everyone.. watch the video .. if you're having a "hard time"
getting your
pictures of your hounds up and out there.. think on Picasa and maybe give it
a whirl ... again its FREE !!! (and very fast, and touch-ups to pictures
are not permanent until you say so which solves those "oops"
moments!)

We were wondering what was happening with Wyatt & how everything went with
the vacation dilemma. It is wonderful that you got additional time with him.
It's such an impossible decision to have to make. We've had this
discussion
at work many many times: How do you know when it's the right time? Are you
holding on more for your own sake or for his? My heart breaks for you. Know
that healing drool is being sent to your family - and to Wyatt, should it be
necessary.

I work in a busy hospital with 2 other women. We work with hospitalized
kidney patients to make sure they get everything they need while
hospitalized and that their discharge plan is appropriate and in place
before they leave. The last few days have been awful. Usually I keep
everybody entertained with Nigel and Llewis stories but they have been
mysteriously silent this week. Have they reformed? Are they in jail?
We need a Nigel and Llewis fix, BAD. And my coworker Elaine wants to
know if she can vote for them as a write in candidate in November? I
told her Llewis may be the best candidate since he carries the
dictionary.

Dear Steve,
It is very difficult to know exactly when the time is for us to say good by to
those that we hold dear in our hearts. By your writing before, and now on
Wyat's struggles it is maybe time to release him from the difficulties of
everyday life while he still has some tail wagging joy. I know only too well the
guilt and pain involved with this as no time is ever really the right time.
There is always something that stinks about today. Too soon, too late , good
day, bad day. ????
Once a women told me and I've said this before, here on the drool. "A
day too soon is better than a day too late" Since our dog friends can not
talk in words we must look closely at there lives and ask "If it were
me"? I know whatever your decision it will be made with love, and Wyat
will accept when his time comes that you helped him with unselfish love.

With deep sadness,
Judy

The fundraiser for North Texas Basset Hound Rescue is The Shuffle and it
is just around the corner. The Shuffle will be held on Saturday,
September 20, 2008 from 8:30 to 1:00 at Chisholm Park (actual street
address is 2200 Norwood) in Hurst, Texas. We hope that anyone in the
are will come on by and participate in the fun. We will have Tracking
and Obedience Demos - these are done by Harriet Richman and will make
you think you actually might be able to get your dog to listed to you
(for a minute anyway!) - as well as games and contests. We will have a
costume contest, Best Hat, Weenie Toss, Longest Ears, Biggest Paws, 10
yard dash and a Howling Contest. You can also buy Basset stuff from our
store, buy raffle tickets and play musical mats with your dog. Lunch is
free for all who register - so come on out and join us!

We need everyone to do the NORAIN/HEATSTOMP!

There is so much sadness in our drool family right now. I can hardly stand to
read any more with Paddy, Casey, Jimmy, Baylie, and others leaving us.
Haven't caught up on the whole thing, so I am sure that I am missing some
names.
Even more sadness with the beloved slaves Pat and Mary returning to the Creator
as well.
Please accept this small comfort. I do hate to send group messages, but my
time only allows one, when I would love to send 6 or more individual messages.
You all deserve acknowledgement for your special devotion and love.
I believe in the overwhelming and all encompassing love of Yahweh the Creator.
What I consistently see from my fellow droolers is that we make the choice,
every day, to love one another, support one another, and honor one another's
commitment to a common goal of good stewardship of the gift of houndie love that
we have been blessed with. I believe that God honors that too. He weeps with
us in our pain, even as He joyfully enfolds His returning one into His love.
Let us uplift the wounded spirits among us with prayers for comfort and peace.
Dogs are eternally hopeful creatures, with love for us even when we do wrong,
forgiveness if we simply accept it, and steadfast courage when our courage
fails. To care for them is to care for a gift that comes directly from God.
They are great examples of faith, hope, love, trust, devotion, courage, and joy.
The world would be a better place if we could all be more like our dogs (except
for the butt sniffing and poop eating...)
To all the families who are hurting out there, I pray that you weep when you
need to, laugh when you feel able, and find comfort in knowing that you are
loved by a love greater than yourself.

Grace and peace to you and your households
Gaylene Opal-Deitering
My passions do not replace my relationship with God, but are instead a
reflection of it!

I wanted to take time to say a special Thank You to all for thinking of us
with Casey's trip to the bridge, Your wonderful notes have dulled the
pain,
made me see once again just how very much you all mean to me. We have had so
many losses in our group, but a lot of wonderful additions also-that makes me
look forward-makes me remember the good times with Casey, she would like that,
tears and sadness upset her so. She is always in my heart, we feel
sadness, it hurts, but in some ways we feel joy--because she is no longer in
pain,
no longer weak and sick, but young again, meeting new furbuds, running playing

able to see again. That is how Casey would want to be remembered, and for
her we will do so. If the loaf of bread disappears from the pantry--well, she
was replenishing the buffet!!!

Again, Thank you all for helping us get thru this.

Waddle with Wheezer 2008

I'm Wheezer, and OBR rescued me from an Amish puppy mill when I was 14
weeks
old. The Amish wanted to destroy me because I was sick, and they don't
believe sick puppies are special enough to have vet care or to feel loved.
They only want to sell "perfect" puppies to make lots of money. OBR
believes
that all their foster bassets are special and deserve to have vet care,
love, and a forever home. I am now 1 year old, and feeling much better, but
only have one lung, and use oxygen when I have trouble breathing. I have my
forever home as a permanent foster with my foster family who loves me very
much and knows how to care for my medical needs. I feel very loved and I am
forever grateful to Ohio Basset Rescue for knowing that they make a
difference saving one dog at a time.
Please join the OBR team and be the difference to a basset in need.

Shirts are available in a pale yellow and will feature Wheezer on the front
with text above

I have just had a text from Becky who is on holiday. Morse has had a bad fit.
She says he seems exhausted by it.
She is obviously very worried. I think this is worse than previous ones.
Rolph and Clara are already sending express drool, I know some more would be
very welcome.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has a basset who seems to really dislike
another particular breed of dog. I have 2 bassets and our male seems to
absolutely HATE any and all akitas.

The first experience we had with this was shortly after we adopted him and he
just went crazy on an akita at the dog park. Thankfully the akita pretty much
ignored him and kept moving...I know some akitas can be somewhat unfriendly
towards other dogs so I think we got lucky with that situation. The next few
incidents were with an elderly akita that lived down the street from us and
anytime we would pass the dog on our walks Barney would go ballistic pulling and
barking and growling trying to go after the other dog. I think that akita must
have passed onto the bridge because the other day on our walk we saw the same
family walking a different, younger akita and Barney had the same exact reaction
as the other encounters. Normally Barney is the sweetest dog you ever want to
meet and has no problems with any other dogs we come across, but something about
akitas make him go crazy! (BTW my girl basset just wants to play with everyone
we meet)

Anyway, I was just curious to see if anyone else had a basset who is a bit
discriminating. We are sending lots of drool to everyone who needs it...we
always have a surplus!

Elena, slave to:
Jessie (anyone want to play????) and Barney (don't even look at me akita I
will mess you up!!)
