Hi Droolers!

I'm still three weeks behind on my drools, but I just read Jeanette's
story about Mikey's escape and share my own similar story of good
neighbors.

When the boyfriendslave (Jeb) and I moved into our house back in
February, it was the first time we had a fenced yard, and we were loving
being able to let Ginger out to play and roam free without worry. Our
picket fence had a gated entrance, which had a little "kickstand" thingy
to hold it open if necessary. One day when I was (gratefully) at work,
the boyfriendslave came home for lunch and let Ginger out back. He
checked his email, made a sandwich, and settled down for a little tv. A
while later, he went outside to get her and she was gone! He
immediately noticed that he had accidentally dropped down the kickstand
on the gate...and she was gone. He panicked and started calling for her,
and running down the street. We live on the intersection of a side
street and a fairly busy street, and about one block from an extremely
busy street. He saw her galloping at full speed to the busiest street,
and as he was running and screaming her name, a good Samaritan who we
didn't know came out with his pit bull and she ran right up to them, and
the man grabbed G and held on to her until Jeb could run over, panting
and out of breath. This man's house was on the busy street, and five
seconds later she would have been crossing the road-and you know what
that would have meant...

Jeb was so grateful to the man who helped him corral our baby! He later
told me that he grabbed her and cradled her in his arms all the way
home, just like a baby. He put her inside and grabbed his tools and
violently removed the kickstand from the gate. He then spent the next
hour loving on G and appreciating that she was still alive and safe. He
felt so guilty!

I also think he was thankful that his own life was spared that day -
because if I had come home to a dead or injured basset...his life would
have been over! ;)

If anyone can spare some heart-healing drool to my Barney (B), he gets
his first HW treatment this weekend. We would sure appreciate it!
