[Dailydrool] Second thoughts about spaying....

This Thursday I will be having my 5 1/2 month old girl Zoe spayed. She is healthy and full of life, loves to play and run and leap in the back yard. For some reason I am feeling so guilty about getting her spayed.

I know all the arguments in favor of spaying, and agree with them all. She's less likely to have cancer, no unwanted litters, no dealing with heat cycles or amorous males - I just feel so guilty. I look at her bounding around the house and imagine her having her stomach sliced open and organs removed and I feel like dirt.

I've spent the last 5 1/2 months keeping her safe and unharmed and now I'm going to hand her over for major surgery. Because after all it is an elective surgery - one that is quite invasive and removes healthy body parts from a dog who is not sick.

Sigh. It is so hard being the adult in the household and doing difficult things.
