Debbie- I would look at it as you still protecting her by getting her
spayed. If she goes into heat regularly then she is at a much greater
risk of trying to run off and find a mate, and a basset who has run
off does not stand the best of chances in the world. I have had all of
my dogs fixed and i've never noticed any loss of energy or playfulness
