[Dailydrool] Temporary paralysis advice needed

Once again I am asking for a little input about my step basset, Tessie.
Since I last mentioned her she has gained enough weight to look slender, but not ill. However, last night something very upsetting happened. As I was not there I can only repeat what Tom told me:
She was asleep on his bed when he called them for their last walk. unusually, she didn't respond, so he went to get her and found her very "sleepy and out of it". He called her again and she just looked at him, so he grabbed her collar and pulled her off the bed and she went downstairs with him.
He put their leads on, but she went flat basset. So, he gave up, took the leads off and locked up for the night. He went back upstairs and turned to see Tessie trying to follow him, hauling herself up the stairs with her front legs and dragging her back legs and rump.
He ran back to help her, but when he put his arms round her to lift, she screamed and bit him.
She then dragged herself up the stairs, flumped on to a dog bed and fell straight asleep - unlike Tom who lay awake all night worrying.
At some time during the night she woke up and jumped on his bed. This morning she seems absolutely fine.
I have suggested he put her straight on Glucosamine and chondroitin msm and gate off the stairs, carrying her up at night if that is what they both want.
Tessie is only 2 years old. She is small, slender and very fit. Tom got her at 10 months old and was at least her 3rd owner. Her previous owners allowed her to use the stairs.

Has anyone any ideas what could have caused a temporary paralysis? And has anyone got advice as to how to go from here? I need not tell you how much Tom loves his little girl.
