[Dailydrool] Electric Fence for Bassets - Dailydrool Digest, Vol 55, Issue 3

To: melody chapman

We had an electric fence for our basset. We had the biggest transformer that we could get, because the normal collars only caused our basset to scratch. The fence kept him in the yard as long as there was nothing outside the fence to interest him. If he saw another dog, he would run right through the electric fence.

So I don't recommend the electric fence. We now have a regular fence, and I'm much more comfortable letting Wendell out.

Thanks

Gale

> Since there have been some inquiries, my Saintly boy is still at Tufts and will be for another 2-3 days. He is on oxygen, his temp still hasn't gone below 104. Hid nasal discharge is down, cough increased and he's coughing up lots of nastiness. They are planning on changing antibiotics tomorrow to "one of the big guns"...( imipenem or vancomycin ?)..We are pushing them to change tonight. If he isn't responding after 48 hrs, he needs something else. They don't have enough results back to discuss adding an antifungal yet, but it is a consideration. So even if they get his temp down tomorrow, they need to make sure it stays down and he does OK off the oxygen. If they don't even change his meds until tomorrow, it will probably be Thurs or Fri before he comes home. Way too long! Seems he has a real cesspool in his lungs. I hope we get it resolved soon....

> My new rescue basset?hound is terrible on the leash.? Goes flat basset when he doesn't want to? move. Any suggestions on a better system to help him stand up and get moving, rather than the choke collar and leash???? I end up picking him up in the front, then the back, then the front then the back......It's getting hard on my back needless to say. Any suggestions would be appreciated.? Treats don't mean a thing to this guy.....

> Well, you may (or may not) remember last Friday Lillie Pearl, my youngest, got cut someway in the yard. We paid some bucks to have stitches and brought her home. Friday she was very groggy. Just laid around all afternoon and evening. Saturday she was very sore. More laying around. Sunday she was wide open. At some point Sunday she must have popped a stitch somehow. Because now it's leaking.
>
> I took her to the vet this morning but the doc had an all-day farm call so me and the vet tech decided to leave it be and give her an E-collar. Now that's just plain cruel. I was thinking it would keep her calm, maybe even depressed, and maybe, just maybe, the leakage would stop and heal on its own.
>
> I'll be taking her to the vet in the morning. The e-collar took her about all of 10 minutes to figure she could play still and use it to her advantage. So much for the calming effect.

I was hoping to have the payment in time for Board Waddle. The bidder did contact me via email after the auction, but I haven't heard from her since. (I emailed a couple of times).?
