[Dailydrool] Suggestions of discipline?

I haven't posted in a while, but wanted to say that my thoughts are with all of you who have lost their beloved bassets. We are sending tons of drool for those who are hurt or sick as well.

I have a question about disciplining Franny. Franny has some issues - she's possessive of toys, couches and occasionally her humans. When she growls at one of our dogs (or cats) because something is hers and hers alone, I give her a firm "NO" usually accompanied by a stiff, but not rough, smack on her snout. I then remove whatever she's "possessing" at the time - she get's pushed off of our laps, the toy gets taken away, etc.

Lately, I've had a new growling experience with her. If I come to pet her and approach over the top of her, she will growl at me. This is not acceptable - but I'm not sure how to discipline her. With possessive issues the solutions seem simple, but with this newer dominance issue, I'm not sure what I should do.

Please help!?

Thanks!
