I have a 16 year old doxie who has had heart issues for a while.  He was diagnosed as heartworm positive about three years ago (two years before I got him), and about six months ago he started really coughing a lot.  His vet put him on Hawthorne.  He no longer coughs, he runs around like a puppy.  the vet says his heart sounds just fine.  I was amazed at the results.  I googled hawthorn and found that it is used in humans to strengthen the heart muscle.  I has done absolute wonders for my CJ's heart.  

Don't know if this is something useful, or something that would keep Elder Clara's heart strong, but I know it has saved my CJ, so I thought I would mention it to you.
