I would also recommend applying a generous layer of Gold Bond Powder or
generic equivalent to the area after each cleaning.  At our house we
clean them with hydrogen peroxide but I'm sure the antibacterial soap
works just as well.  ours rarely need an antibiotic, but the
occasional really nasty one needs a little steroid help.
