[Dailydrool] Scritch, scratch, scratch, thump

You know how it is (scratch, scratch, scratch), when you can't concentrate (thump, scratch, thump), because your houndie has an itch? (scratchity, scratchity, scratchity).

Rolph has been that dog since spring, joined to a lesser degree by Clara. We have been to the vet, taken pred, taken extra flea precautions, rubbed in cream, eaten capsules and used Rescue Remedy, all to no avail. The itch stayed and got worse and worse.

Norma with Angel recommended I try them on cottage cheese and potato for a week. No difference. I was all ready to make a transatlantic call to Dr Al Plechner when Bev posted about removing wheat from her boys' diet.

"Done that" I thought. And then I had a conversation with other family members and realised while I was mashing potatoes and cheese, others had been slipping soleful-eyed pups gravy bones and dental sticks - all containing wheat!

So, on Monday I banned wheat, in all forms, from everyone who has any dealings with the hounds. Within 24 hours Rolph's scratching had subsided (not gone, but definately less).
Of course, I hadn't allowed for Roph's thieving skills. At 36 hours he grabbed a sweet bread bun from the fridge while I reached for the milk. And guess what happened - scratch, scratch, scratch, thump, scratch, thump, scratchity, scratchity, scratchity.

I know it's not proof, but I think I may have found the answer.

Sally, with Rolph and Clara, UK
