The girls have been here for 4 weeks already, it really doesn't seem that long. It appears that they will be heading to Daphneyland in the next couple of weeks. The details on the transport have not been finalized yet, but are in the works. Chris Dowd is making this happen for these 2 sweet seniors. We will probably need some volunteers to get them from San Antonio, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Please let me or Chris Dowd know if you are able to help. Chris can be contacted at cdowd_postalpros at yahoo.com and my email addy is suzyvette at satx.rr.com

Sophie is sooooooo funny. She really loves her stuffies. There was 1 sitting on top of Nancy's crate and she managed to get it down, and shake the life out of it. But she really likes the bigger one, it's almost half the size of her. She drags it around, has even taken it outside a few times. She can get down the 2 steps with it, but can't get it back up, so I have to go out and rescue it for her. She sleeps with it and sometimes uses it at a pillow.

Nancy is still using her crate as her security blanket, but did come out while I was pouring a cup of coffee this morning. My coffee maker is only about 10 feet from her crate. That's the closest I've been and had her come out :)
She takes treats from my hand and let's me pet her while she's inside her crate. She watches when Holly & Sophie come in and I pet them, but she still doesn't feel secure enough to come out and get in on the fun. She does stay out in the yard with them longer than she used to, and she actually barked at the dogs in the yard next to us the other day. She only did it once, but it's a start.

The girls woke me around 3am to go outside. Nancy loves being in the yard when it's dark and nobody can see her.
They were out for about 20 minutes and then everyone went back to bed. I had just fallen asleep when something bumped into my bed and moved it enough to wake me. Holly is big enough to do that. I got out of bed and walked over to her bed to see what was up....and what did I see??? I saw 2 Basset Hounds :) Sophie had figured out how to open the gate without me hearing it. Then she navigated her way around my office chair without making a sound. I move my chair over to the gate at night so that Nancy will come out of the crate and sleep on the rugs or the pillows.
It has a high back that blocks off the view from the kitchen to the rest of the house, and that makes Nancy feel secure. Had Sophie just gotten up on 1 of the dog beds I never would have known until this morning. I'm not sure if what woke me was Sophie trying to get up onto my bed, or if it was Holly letting me know about the great escape.

There are a few reasons that Sophie needs to stay in the kitchen overnight, the most important one is that I don't want Nancy to be alone. Holly has even slept out there a few nights with them. There are plenty of pillows for their comfort. I guess I'm going to have to figure out a better way to keep the little escape artist in the kitchen tonight :)
