Bill here, press agent/personal trainer to Miss Angela Basset, Droop and Drool Diva of Wichita and Sedgwick County

Miss Angela frequently suffers from laryngitis. It usually arises from one of two situations. One is that she occasionally becomes over-eager on our walks and strains against her collar. When the passing dog or other item of interest is gone, she will cough a couple of times and croak a bit. Yes, I am aware of harnesses and the Gentle Leader. However I seem to be a bit old school and never bother to put her harness on her. Her reluctance to be dressed in anything other than her collar is well known, and she regards her harness as the same kind of imposition on her dignity.

The second occasion of hoarseness is after a particularly prolonged period of vocalization. When Miss Angela goes to Doggy Day Care, she frequently tries to organize amateur theatricals and, since the other (non basset) day campers have no interest in said theatricals, she resorts to long harangues and fervid exhortations. By the time I get out of class and over to collect her, she is hoarse and exhausted. She usually spends the next 24 hours sprawled out on her couch, snoring and moaning in her sleep (most likely still directing recalcitrant Aussies and pugs in light opera), only arising for nature's call or long sessions at the water bowl. I let her out and, instead of barking to come back in, she croaks impatiently.

Bill (I used to get hoarse after the first day of school)
