[Dailydrool] ACL repair surgery

Hi. As I understand it, there are two different forms of surgery to repair
a dog's torn ACL -- the standard "suture" one, and the newer TPLO.

Blueberry had TPLO (in both her legs, about a year apart), and had good,
steady, uneventful recoveries. A friend's dog had the suture kind (done by
Blueberry's surgeon), and is having a terrible time. It was two weeks today, and
she still can't really put any weight on the leg, is hobbling around and
just doesn't want to move. The vet tech on the phone has said that "every dog
recovers in his own way." My friend is extra-concerned because her dog seemed
to be improving last week, then took a huge step backwards (no pun intended)
and has not improved at all since then, and is below the level she had
reached.

She has an appointment with the surgeon next week, but I'm just wondering if
anyone else has had the suture repair on the ACL, and if they also were still
so lame after two weeks? It would reassure my friend, who is convinced
that (despite her very careful care) her dog has somehow injured the surgical
site and ripped out the internal suture that's holding the knee together (which
can happen) and that she will have to go through it all over again. (The
dog is 12, with heart and kidney problems.)

Thanks --

Beth (Duchess ATB and Blueberry ATB)
