hello all..
i would have liked to have watched the dog show last night or at least the
partial rerum this morning HOWEVER... so did Daisy. she watches television
and can spot a dog on the screen even if the sound is turned off. she perched
her entire 50 lbs self on just the arm of the sofa last night, making the 42"
screen about 3" from her nose, watched the dogs coming out into the arena. it
was the toy group. i had to get her down so she watched from the living room
floor then, barked happily to greet each one and then lunged towards the
table the tv is on. there are movies with dogs in them and i have learned to
change the channel if she is watching tv, i don't trust her.

i finally put her to bed, went in my room to watch the show and promptly
fell asleep, waking up to a white screen at 3am. missed the whole thing! this
morning i turned on the rerun of it and she jumped at the bedroom screen so i
just gave up. i have never owned a more intelligent and goofy dog in my
life. who knew they would sit and watch tv?

as for conversing with your dog in a reasoning tone, i did it too when Daisy
was little...last year. she began having barking fits, she stood and barked
at me for no reason that i could tell. finally having had enough of this, i
sat down, held her face in my hands and told her it was not acceptable that
she sass me , that i wasn't going to put up with it anymore and to find a
better way to vent her obvious frustrations. she cocked her head at me, listened
intently and i swear , it was the last barking fit she ever had out in the
open.

from then on she began going to her kennel, burying her head in her pillows
and flannel sheets and barked into them until her fit passed. fits are rare
these days but her actions are still the same, into the bed, bark bark bark,
growl and bark some more, then turns around , walks back out and is happy as
a clam. absolutely amazing to me! i didn't know dogs like this existed!

we had a cocker spanial who had a grin from ear to ear. when my parents
would walk up the driveway he would wiggle out to them, grinning and showing all
his teeth and it was darned spooky at times! but was he sweet and charming
like Daisy? not. was he well behaved? not. was he unusually intelligent? hardly.
did he want badly to bite the mailman, UPS man or any other man? oh yah, he
nearly drowned in his drool just thinking of how they were going to taste in
the first bite. he never got the chance. $1600 and lots of wrought iron
fencing cured that threat. Daisy wont bite anybody , i have not seen her be
aggressive with anyone but maybe there is always a first.

anyway, i hope some of you got to watch the show because i didn't! Sue/Daisy
