I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy. But if ever there was a way to go, snuggled on the couch having one's ears rubbed is it. I hope that I go as peacefully, surrounded by loved ones as Doofus did.

Its been a while since I posted on the dool, but I just wanted to post this for all of the people and hounds who met Doofus at the Broadwaddle.

Doofus made it to the Broadwaddle 8 out of the 10 years it has been held, this last one he did not make it because he was having trouble with his back and legs, but he came out of it and was doing ok.

This past Sunday, Doofus went to the Rainbow Bridge. It all happen so fast, we woke up around 5:30am and by 6:20am, he was gone.
We got up and he acted as if he wanted to go out side, but instead he went over and got up on the sofa, where he had his chin and ears rubbed the way he liked, in a short time he just laid down his head on the arm of the sofa and went to sleep and was gone.

Doof was a rescue from our local Kennel, where we board our other dogs whenever we went away, and they knew we loved basset hounds, and so when Doof's old family said to get rid of him, because they did not want him, the kennel called us and wanted to know if we would like to have him with us.
We did take him and loved him every minute of the time he was here with us. Doof never asked for much, except to be loved and to do things his way, he set the rules around here and everyone followed them, things were done to suit him. He lived a long life, he was 14 years old.

Doof bought so much joy and love to our lives, right now it is a hard thing to deal with, but we are trying one day at a time.
Doof would want us to be ok, I know that he is still around us and will always be here in spirit.

I know that he is at the bridge playing in the sunshine that he so loved, he would lay out on the deck in it, and you would have to walk over him to get by him.
He is with his other friends that he made these past years and also with out other 2 basset's that we had before him.
They all are together in a nice warm and safe place, running and doing all sort of things that only basset hounds can do.

Always a slave to "Doofer"
