I have read all the posts regarding the Marley and Me movie and have not
seen anyone post this yet. I read in the Sunday paper 2 weeks ago that one
of the puppies that played Marley at the beginning of the movie was given to
John Grogan when they were done with the puppy. After Grogan had the puppy
several weeks he noticed that he couldn't do all the things that a normal
Lab puppy would do. He took him to the vet only to find out that he had a
birth defect and was born with virtually no hip sockets. He contacted the
breeder who agreed to take the puppy back but he decided he didn't want to
see the puppy be put down, so he said he would keep him. He took him to the
Univ. of PA vet hospital to have him evaluated. Right now the puppy is
receiving supplements and a special diet with maybe surgery some day in the
future. He could have easily tossed this dog aside but he did not, just
like he endured Marley's antics.
I read the book and loved it. I was somewhat bothered by Jenny beating on
the dog after her miscarriage but I'm sure she wasn't physically hurting him
though I don't t hink it is ever right to take our emotions out on our pets.
I was also disappointed that they kenneled Marley a few times when he was
older to go away. I personally couldn't do that, but we are all different
and have different priorities.
Just some info and my 2 cents.
Diane
