[Dailydrool] 2009 - needs a new start

It's disappointing that this start to the new year on the drool has been so tense.  This list is my mental relaxation time.  My time to de-stress because it is silly, fun and informative.  AND where else can I go that I can feel completetly normal with my doggie obessions.  I have a lot of stress in my life and I am not a controversial person.

This "drool" family has been my saving grace since I joined 2 years ago.

I really want this list to get back to the way it was when I joined.

Please let's just quit fighting and have some fun!

I have new buppy stories to share!

I so enjoy all types of posts, the intellectual and informative, as well as
the "bassetese".  I've been on the drool since the mid 90's when it first
started, and while I don't post as much as I did at first, the drool is very
much an important part of my daily life,  both the funny and serious.
Sylvie, please don't leave us, I met you last year at the All Breed Show in
Portland, and I thoroughly enjoyed your wisdom and knowledge, as well as
your beautiful houndettes. (Hope to see you there this weekend!)  As for the
bassetese, it brings me out of my doldrums to read it on days when I come
home from work ( I have a difficult, depressing job, which I won't go into)
and I consider it to be quite therapeutic.  I especially love reading about
Elder Clara and her gas bombs tormenting Elwood!  Can we please keep it
light, so that we can all enjoy the diverse melting pot of knowledge and
humor that we are as droolers?

A big welcome to Cleo (thank you Bill and Janie for fostering!) and to
Conner -- congratulations to Jenny and Charley on your new family member.
Drool to Miss Twinkletoes -- what a lucky girl to get such wonderful foster
moms to nurse you back to health!  And we're so glad that Rufus is doing
better.

The bassets are sending healing drool to Claudia and try not to miss your
mommy too much drool to Winston, Sadie, and Sir Henry.  Please let us know
how she's doing after surgery..  She'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Carmen, you picked the perfect song for your montage of Kelvin -- he looks
wonderful, and it's clear that he's become devoted to you.  I can see that
you will have a hard time if you decide that you're not his forever home.  I
so admire all of you who foster -- it is so unselfish to love an animal and
then give it to someone else to love.

Roger and Joyce, my guess is Twoie just needs a bit more time to feel
completely comfortable with you and then she'll bark.  My Molly didn't bark
until she was with us about six months.  And now she only does it when she's
happy and excited, like when we first come home.  It touches my heart when
she does bark because I know how happy and comfortable she is with us.
Twoie will get that way with you too -- it just takes time, especially with
rescues when you don't know what they've been through.

And finally, a belated happy birthday to Fizban!  I hope you had a good day,
and I'm so sorry you didn't get a guinea pig or gerbil for your birthday!
Laura (Geoffrey, Molly, Henry, Rosebud, Lisa (ATB), Dub-Dub (ATB))

I am a broker.  I work in an office with 12 other harrassed brokers who have
whatched collegues and clients lose their shirts in the last 6 months.  Many
have quit the industry, and some have quit the planet(read between the lines
here). It has not been a whole lotta fun, in fact it has been down right
horrid.  About 3 months ago in a bid to make it through the day I began
reading the antics of Nigel,Lewis, Elder Clara, and Da brother out loud.  I
have made up voices for each character/basset.  We work in an open office
so pretty much anyone and everyone listens.  The act is a resounding success
and a much sought after part of the day.  In fact it is a very sad day when
there are no entries to read.  We would all miss them tremendously if they
were silenced. So three cheers for our Basset contributors.  And no, no one
has questioned my sanity yet...

We lubb our auntie sylvie and we don't want you do quit the drool.

We don't know why ober and ober again peoples on the drool hab to be mean to
peeples and stuff.

I skip posts..I actually hab some furends posts I skip..some just don't
carry my interests.  DOesnt mean we
don't lubb you just don't care about the topic you are writing about.

And we know auntie syvlie doesnt skip all the basset speak cause hers reads
mine mine mine hehehehe

But anyways it is dumb when peoples think they can't write there opinion and
can't say what they think

we almost quit once cause of mean personal emails..I just don't know what
the point is of sending someone a mean email

I don't really know what the drool is supposed to really be about but I am
thinking, the betterment of animal treatment, breeding healthy bassets,
basset hound rescue both in doing what you can to help and also contributing
to others fundraisers and being a friend to someone in need.

Aunite Sylvie breeds very nice bassets who are healthy and good natured and
live in her house not in the dogs areas like alot of dogs.

She is one of a very few people in Washington state who really do make a
difference and give way more of there time, lifes and money to basset
rescue.  WIthout her, AUntie Sandy, & Auntie Alexa I don't know what would
happen to homeless bassets in our state...

She always emailssomeone if they post about a sick dog and  give her years
of advise and says call me if i can help and stuff.

and if we as a group let someone like that leave...then we are idiots...yep
you heard me idiots!!!!!!

we lubb you AUntie Sylvie (she is our real auntie cause hers raised Lexie
from a babygurl)

Twinkle Toes is heading to the surgeon tomorrow but the local CBHR vet says
she apparently has more injuries to her hip than was thought. Her pelvic
fracture and an injury not noted before to her hip joint must heal before  she can
have surgery on her ACL. Her foster mommas are giving her all the TLC  she
needs and the volunteers of CBHR who love her are anxiously awaiting the
surgeon visit. We were able to get Little Frannie, the dog with no hip or knee
joints, into a wonderful forever home and we know we will find the perfect home
for Miss Twinkle Toes after her long recovery from being hit by a car. She went
from the side of a road to the shelter to a plane ride and then into the
arms of  two loving foster mommas. What a week she has had!

We thank you all for your encouraging messages to her and appreciate all  the
drool sent her way. The special needs dogs touch our hearts.. Obviously, all
the gentle basset people on the drool feel that in their hearts too.

Maybe we should live like dogs in the present and forget all the turmoil  and
concentrate on the care and love of our bassets and wannabes. The support of
the drooler community is invaluable when you have a sick doggy or need some
TLC  when a furbaby goes to the Rainbow Bridge. No one understands the pain
like a  fellow drooler or knows how to comfort like a drooler. The breeders
generously  share their knowledge about the breed on many occasions and it's most
helpful. It's a very special family, and all families disagree sometimes  but
they don't stop loving each other.

On a happy note, I will be getting a new foster baby very soon. He is very
thin and love starved so the "Ratboyz" and I look forward to helping him on the
journey back to health. Our last foster went to his new forever home last
weekend and is living the life of a king with adoring slaves in an Equestrian
Community. Lucky dog!

OK.  I am writing in the hopes that we can, as a group of Basset loving adults, reverse the growing trend of those beloved veteran Droolers that are choosing to leave us.  I am honestly shocked at the goings on as of late, and it is my sincere hope that we can all come to terms with "agreeing to disagree" and move forward.
I came to the Drool a first time dog owner looking for some advice on how to raise my boy, and what I found was a whole world of  wonderful, caring, supportive people I have come to rely on!  And the education I received on how to be a good "slave" went far beyond my own home.  It brought me into the world of rescue.  I have been forever changed and in turn, have been able to make my small contributions to hopefully change someone else.  None of this would have been possible without many of those now leaving our list.  I am not only deeply saddened, but alittle scared that future members will not have the same access to such amazing people to educate and support them on their journey.

Please, please for the sake of our BASSETS, let's come together and return to a place where the Drool is a safe haven for information, for a good laugh and for irreplacable support when times are rough.

With a hopeful heart, respectfully yours,
Laura and Harry  Moravinski

Don't leave. You had the right to express whatever you think about the posts in "bassetese" and I think nobody had the right to critisize you for that.
?
We all exchange opinions, views, stories, sad news and we have no right to judge each other or attack each other as we're here to support each other.
?
So stay.
?
I love bassetese - especially MomPerson's furbabies and Brudder Elwood (his dialect is much more difficult to understand but it's so worth reading till the end).
It's so funny!!!

For the most part, I'm a quiet Drooler and only post sometimes and I mainly email to Droolers privately, but I?couldn't have agreed more with what Pam Tanzey said, and I'm hoping she'll reconsider and continue to be a Drooler. I've been a member of this for 6 years and for the most part I stay quiet unless I have questions or just things to share. But I can't believe how much this list has changed in the years. I looked forward to getting the messages everyday and looked forward to seeing what new info. would help me and my babies and what funny facts there would be to brighten my days.?Thanks to the Drool, I've made some wonderful, caring?friends who have helped me through a divorce, being a single parent and through all of my health problems and?I don't know where I would be without them. But for the most part, the Drool has changed so much and not necessarily for the better. I know everything changes and nothing stays the same and I know that
includes how people change and their personalities.I just think?everyone needs to stop and think before they speak and see how they would feel if it was the other way around and also people need to stop and think and remember why the Daily Drool was created in the first place. I think that's been lost somewhere along the way.
?
God Bless to everyone who has lost their Basset babies lately. You're in my prayers.

I can understand about Bassets, I came home the other night & pulled in the driveway & then forgot to close the drive thru gate, went in the house, started watching TV, and in the meantime my Significant other headed to bed after letting the girls out for their nightly rounds, well, they made the rounds longer than normal,? I got a call about a ? hr later saying my Babies were at the Jack in the Box (Like McDonalds) , I immediately got in the car to go get them, this Burger Joint is 0.6 miles from my house, thankfully the nice lady called me & let me know that they had Strayed,? All was well, I took them home, remembering that there is no end to their sense of smell, & also that I needed to show more care about the gate? :)

This is Rebecca, and Humphrey. We haven't read or posted to the DD in
months. Life has been crazy.

Humphrey is now 14 months old, and for the most part, the changes in him are
astounding. I think he was something like 4 months when we first joined the
Drool, and to be honest, some days were a total nightmare, with the
teething, and the constant pooping on the rug, and whatnot. Cut to a year
later, and he drops his ball into our hands instead of making us tug for it;
knows different names for most of his toys; and it's been 3 months since he
had an accident on the floor.

It looks like I came back to the Drool in a moment of drama. As a
professional writer myself (screenwriter), I generally obsess over
grammatical errors and misused words. Despite all this, 'bassetese' doesn't
bother me. If I can't readily understand what one person is trying to say in
a post, I move on.. I have no business judging anyone else, but I don't see
why this very mundane and generally inoffensive practice can't be observed
by all: if something doesn't interest you, move on. Furthermore, I no more
find it fair for, say MomPerson to stop the 'bassetese' as I find it fair
for Sylvie McGee to feel she has to leave the Drool simply because of this
argument.. From one liberal vegan animal welfare/rights supporter to whoever
the rest of you are, to each his own, everyone.

Anyway, I hope everyone's doing well, and if Humphrey knew what the Drool
was I'm sure he would, too.. Happy new year to everyone, and drool to anyone
in need of it.

-Rebecca, Humphrey, & Professor Bix the Grumpy old St. Berkita
