[Dailydrool] What the Drool means to me

I agree with Menzie in that with the Drool I feel a tremendous sense of belonging. I have four dogs and they consume my life - if I could I would quit work and spend every moment of every day with them. My friends, while nice people, are not dog people and they just don't understand how it feels to be with dogs. When I read posts to the Drool I realize that there are other people out there who think about their dogs almost constantly, would sell their homes to raise money for their medical care if needed, are not revolted by drool and poop and vomit (well, maybe a little revolted but if it is your OWN dog's drool/poop/vomit suddenly you develop a passionate interest!), and consider their dogs to be FAMILY - not pets, or companions, or friends, but family.

It's very encouraging to read about people who chose their home because of the fenced backyard or lack of steps, or bought a vehicle with emergency evacuation of their dogs uppermost in their minds, or who purchase clothing based on whether dog hair will show on it. No one else in my family or circle of friends understands how natural it is to think this way.

The Drool provides a group of like-minded peers that helps me feel normal and not an oddity. It is a place where I can ask any question about my dogs - ANY question - and feel confident that someone will be able to help me. I live in Nowheresville, TN and would never meet a real basset hound breeder, and I don't have any friends who work in a vet's office. It is only through the Drool that I can have access to people with this knowledge and information who not only will help me but who WANT to help me because they care about my dogs too.

And you know - if you care about my dogs then you are my friend. My good friend.
