Yes, this was on the BBC news last night - specifically focusing on the bulldog, to be made leaner, have longer legs and have a not-so-squashed face. The only thing I will say is that I do agree with any changes that need to be made when the health of the dog is compromised. The dogs shown last night on the news looked healthy, but despite the owners saying the dogs have no problems breathing, the bulldogs were constantly panting (in winter) and were making snuffling noises all the way through. I know that some Pekingnese dogs have had similar problems. In these cases, I think they may have a case. Also, I previously owned dachshunds, and I do think certain breeders are breeding them too long - which causes horrendous back difficulties, which one of my dachshunds did have, losing the feeling his back legs for some weeks. With the basset, they are thinking of making the ears shorter, making them leaner and making the legs longer I believe. I am not quite sure of the reasoning behind the shorter ears and longer legs.
If anyone does want to reply to me privately, could they please use my home email? (rebecca.stanton at yahoo.co.uk)

Apply to become a member of your local Hospital !

Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust is applying to become a Foundation Trust and we want to recruit 4,000 members (who can be either patients or members of the public) from the local community to have a say in how the Trust is run and help shape the future of the hospital for the next 20 years. Members can:

* Help influence decisions about future plans for the development of the Trust.
* Support the work of the Trust and receive regular newsletters.
* Stand for election to the Council of Governors and work with the Trust Board to ensure that the Trust delivers services that reflect the needs of the local community.

If you feel you don't have the time to get too involved then that is fine - we can just send you information about our services so that you can keep up to date with our plans. We are reassuring all of our members that the level of commitment required as a member is entirely up to them and there are absolutely no fees or subscriptions.

Applying is very easy and will only take a couple of minutes. You can apply for membership online at: http://www.meht.nhs.uk/foundation-trust/apply-online/.
