Dear Barney,

When I first came to live with my new family from my wonderful foster 
mommy Diane I cried a lot too.  It took me a month or so to settle in 
and stop crying and whining.   Are you a newly-adopted Basset?  My new 
mommy watches my ear position and looks into my eyes to get an idea of 
what I am thinking or how I am feeling.  She does pretty well, but she's 
sometimes stubborn about giving me what I want all the time.  You know 
how these slaves are...hogging the cheese and only giving us samples. 

I hope your mommy learns your body language soon so she won't be upset 
anymore.
