Our boy Freckles has Corneal edema, like Beth we figured his eyes were just getting older because he is ten years old but we took him to the vet just in case and our vet recommended an ophthalmologist visit. We took him to a specialist in ophthalmology and she said he had ulcers in both eyes so the ophthalmologist did a grid keratotomy to help heal the ulcers and we had him on 4 different drops for three months and he had to wear contact lenses his ulcers healed and we have him on the same drops Beth has her dog on, I found out you can get the eye drops from Sams Club for a fourth of the price they are at Walgreens. There is a solution to heal corneal edema our ophthalmologist told us, they can take a few layers of corneal tissue off of the eyeball and take a vein from the sclera of the eye and attach it to the corneal patch the new vein will draw the water out of the cornea and into the bloodstream, but that operation is very expensive about $3000.00 and we cannot afford to get that done at this time, our rescue, Western Missouri Basset rescue, Inc. is very fragile right now operating on a shoestring so we have to be careful not to over spend. We are hoping people buy raffle tickets for the big Corvette raffle that Larry Little is hosting with Guardian Angel Basset Rescue so we can get the money to help Freckles with this surgery. Tickets can be purchased online at wmbri.org we get 50% of the money from all tickets purchased through our site.
