Whether you think mice are cute or just vermin, I would ask you to bear in mind these facts:

Mice are incontinent. Wherever they go, they leave a trail of urine (and some poo, but that can be seen easily). If you see a mouse in your home, you almost certainly have many more than one.
Although they like running along walls, behind cupboards and appliances, they are just as happy checking out the inside of your food cupboards, your kitchen work surfaces, your dogs' beds and their bowls. Height is no object to a determined mouse, they make OEBE counter cruisers look like amateurs.
Pet birds, such as parrots, can be poisoned by mouse urine on their seed. Birdseed is hugely attractive to mice.

Once you have had a mouse invasion, even if you deal with it, you can expect more.
