[Dailydrool] looking after holidaying basset hounds

It's a pity Charlie was such a brat and could have ruined your good
arrangements for Elsinore. But sometimes minding other people's basset
hounds is good fun! It's like being a grannie - you know you get to
hand them back!

We are currently minding two for a non-drooler - Rupert age 9 months and
Axel nearly four years. Both are house trained, crate trained, and sit
before getting their dinner.

We are having an absolute ball - Lucy who is aged ten plays alligator
mouth with the 9 month old for hours. Then he chews up some cardboard
tubes while she sleeps. And Axel looks on in relief that someone else
is playing with the puppy ...

And yes, we had a major panic when Rupert started limping badly on the
second day. And the vet decided Rimadyl rather than x-rays, and he
stopped limping and is still fine four days after finishing, so
hopefully whatever it was, was just a strain. (and although Monika
isn't a drooler, she knows some so please don't tell her, we didn't want
to worry her ...).

She gets to take them back on Saturday and we are going to really miss
them. Rupert is absolutely into everything - taking the sticks out of
plant pots, eating pots, destroying one plastic squeaky toy of Lucy's
per day (lucky she prefers the fluffy ones). But his heart is in the
right place, and he certainly keeps us on our toes.

So he and Axel will be welcome back again, as long as their crates come
too!
