Our Sarah is the lumpiest dog we've ever had, by far. We're now used to her cysts opening up and draining, and our vet said that as long as they don't get infected, they're not much to worry about. They could take them off, but in a 12-year-old dog, it's not really worth the surgery unless the lump is in the way of motion, or in a place it won't stay clean. For now, when one breaks open, we cut the hair around it, put warm compresses on it occasionally for the first few days, and just let Sarah keep it clean (gag). She took care of one about half-way out her tail a couple of weeks ago. It has closed up again for now, but Frank still "points" to it every now and then.
