[Dailydrool] Rescue Success Story and Plea for Help

Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario (BHRO) has had an extremely busy
year...and a very successful year!

In addition to saving the lives of many bassets that required BHRO's
assistance, BHRO single-handedly closed down an irresponsible, basset
breeding operation in Ontario. This was accomplished by the skilled
volunteers of BHRO that diplomatically negotiated with the operator
until they reached an agreement where BHRO would take all 17 bassets
that lived their lives purely for the function of breeding, leaving the
operator with no dogs and an agreement that these dogs would not be
replaced.

Naturally you can understand what a tremendous accomplishment this was
for BHRO. Not only were these dogs given a chance at a life that they
so deserved, but BHRO was able to put an end to this irresponsible
breeding program.

Of course, success of this magnitude comes with its challenges. In
addition to all the other bassets needing BHRO's help, seventeen in one
swoop has put a severe financial strain on the rescue. Many of the
seventeen bassets were older hounds, some with medical problems that
required immediate action. Sadly, one girl passed away just days after
coming into rescue. And they all needed to be altered before being
placed into loving foster or permanent homes.

This is where the plea comes in.........

BHRO volunteers are in full swing organizing an amazing basset filled
weekend (the not-to-be missed Basset Bustle Extravaganza) taking place
in Hamilton, ON on May 29-31 (details at
http://www.bassetrescue.ca/bustle2009.html). BHRO is in great need and
would be sincerely thankful for any dog/basset related donation for our
raffle. If you have an item that you could spare to help a hound in
need, please send to:
