[Dailydrool] Drooling

Our older basset isn't a big drooler.  I never really understood the reason the "drool" had that name until we got Gallagher. "Aha", we said as he flung the drool across the room hitting both of us.  Anyway, we're in the process of building our "dream house".  We're renting while we build and the rental has beautiful hardwood floors in the kitchen.  After watching the bassets eat, drink and drool on these floors I contacted the builder and told him we were switching to ceramic tile in the kitchen.  Both slobber big time when drinking - and have even taught the old golden to slobber as well.  I think they secretly have a contest to see if they can get as much water out of the bowl as in it.  I now realize that Gallagher is "tanking" is to build up his drool supply.  The best part of his drooling is the full body shake he does, starting with his tail and ending with major lip flap.  He has never howled, but what a great sound when he shakes that drool off.  It sounds like a helicopter taking off.  And, he can really fling it far.  The best part is you can find it days later all dried up - like dried foam.  It's quite the special touch on custom draperies!  Is there a contest to see who can fling the drool the farthest?  Anway, he's a sweet boy, so I suspect he's drooling so much in support of all the houndies out there needing it.
We've decided that once we get into the new house that it needs a senior
hound.  So, come August (or it could be September or October  - building is slow) - we'll be on the lookout for a senior hound in NC to keep these guys in line.
