Hello,
My name is Carmen.
I have been a member of?the drool?for many many years,?and I read the drool?quite often.?
I have 2 bassetts, my male Oscar and my female Pelusa.
Oscar has had HGE, so bad I thoughd we were going
to lose him. This was like four or five years ago. However it does come back. Oscar has
had it 3 times. What we do is that at the first sign which is diarea longer than normal (and
I said that because My dogs tend to have diarrea on and off.) We take him to the vet for
antidiarrea shot and antibiotics. However the last one he had was like three months ago,
and after he got better from the HGE, he started drinking water like crazy and peeing like crazy.
We took?him to the vet and his suger level was 600. The vet said that the HGE was??
so bad that it could have affected his pancreas and killed the cells that make insulin.
We are still trying to stabilize him, but he still over 300. He is?getting 10 units of insulin every
morning now.
He is in very good spirits and?does not even feel the needle, I feel it more than he does. However,
he does not like it when you try to?take blood from him to check his sugar, and he lets us know.
I would like to know if there is any kind of patio doggie doors suited for basset hounds, all the
ones we have found are to tall for them, and he has to use the bathroom a lot.
Please let me know, you can e mail me personally. I'm in the Valrico area east of the Tampa bay
area in Florida.?
