Last night, after school a friend of mine & I drove Slater down to Ft.
Wayne, to give him back to GABR. His vet here took a blood pressure reading
before we left, and was pleased to see it had gone down to 140, he said that
that meant the kidney medicine was working. Got all of his records, and got
on the road. Handed him off in an IHOP parking lot, to a volunteer, after a
really long waddle around the parking lot, he was adorable; demanding pets
from the staff on smoke breaks and everything! Him & Joey were sniffing all
over, it was cute! Sounded like he was on an upswing, and they were going to
take him to the vet's today, and see what they were dealing with, and give
him to his foster momma tonight, so he could settle back in over the
weekend.

She called me tonight about 5:30 tonight to tell me that they found 2 small
masses on his intestines, and thought that his kidneys were bad, so they
sent him to the bridge w/o either of us present. I guess that the lady who
got him last night was there, so at least he wasn't totally alone... But, I
don't understand how yesterday the meds were working, then today he had to
be put down... I feel like a terrible owner; I gave him to some strange
person, and he got killed.... How's that supossed to make a person feel?

His foster momma called me a few mins. ago, and said they did the necropsy,
and he didn't have cancer, but his kidneys were shot. (I kind of thought
that from the begining, that's usually what fluid points too.) She said
there was no warning, and there was nothing they could do...

I'm distraught, as I'd have rather kept him here, so we could have had one
last night w/my big beluga boy, and then been w/him.

But, I'm also livid... All of this, and the rescue still hasn't told me how
or why he was adopted out in the state that he was in... (not dealing w/the
kidneys, that couldn't be expected). Also, when I contacted them & asked if
they knew of any programs that would help w/huge vet bills, I was told to go
& get a care card credit card.

So, now I have about $1650.90 worth of bills (if you include his adoption
fees), and no dog. And, worse than that, I handed over a dog who's normal
vet said he was stabilizing, and now I find out he's dead. I know I
shouldn't make judgements, but I'm REALLY not amused right now, and I don't
think I will ever again deal with this rescue.

I still want to know how they missed his first problems, the ones he needed
surgery for, and no one can tell me...

Fly free Slater, my Big Bubba the Beluga Boy! I know you're not suffering
now, but I still don't know if I made the right choices with you...
