no offense to vets out of school but when your vet of 20 years has never seen something.. I dont think a younger vet would.. I also have found that the younger vets order more tests and arent as familiar with common issues with the breed.. For instance one of the bassets has a fatty cyst and they wanted to do extensive blood work etc to detremine what it is.. and the senior vet had seen it over and over again.. 
the junior vets are instrumental with the rescue dogs and we rely on them heavily to help with the medical needs and I found they are best when in doubt, they consult the senior vet..
