[Dailydrool] Diabetic Surgery

I am really stuggling with a decision. Our Sasha who is insulin dependent diabetic (29 units twice a day) quite suddenly developed serious arthritis or
something. Xrays show problems with knee and opposing shoulder. Looks like chunk of bone broken off by shoulder joint. Surgeon thinks should do knee first and then shoulder in 6 months. Shoulder is actually worse, but he is not sure can repair that, is confident can repair knee by smoothing it out. Arthritis in all joints and a couple of vertebrae in back not that great--credited to the diabetes issues. I am in a real quandry as to whether surgery is worth it-- given her diabetes and her other issues. She is blind-- has gone from going about 1/2 mile on our walks to about 20 feet-- I am just hopingsomeone has had some experience with surgery on diabetic dogs. Kind ofdamned if we do, but damned if we don't. If we repair the knee, we risksurgery with diabetic issues, and she still has other places that cause her
pain. If anyone has had surgery on a diabetic dog would you please email me
off list?
